BREAKING: Out of touch MAGA Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent insists that American children can suffer through fewer toys caused by the shortages and higher prices brought on by the Trump tariffs.

When asked what he would say to a little girl who’s receiving fewer Christmas presents thanks to Trump, his answer was pathetic…

“This reporter behind me was quite snarky the other day when President Trump talked about the girl having two dolls and he said, well what — the president didn’t take the question — but he said, ‘What would you tell that girl?’” Bessent said during an appearance on Fox News.

“And I said, ‘I would tell that young girl that you will have a better life than your parents, that you and your family, thanks to President Trump, can now be confident again that you will have a better life than your parents, which working-class Americans had abandoned that idea,” he continued.

“Your family will own a home. You will be able to advance. You will have a good education. You will have economic freedom,” he claimed.

In addition to being incredibly insensitive to the economic suffering of American families, Bessent is either lying or delusional. Donald Trump’s tariffs are not going to bring some kind of manufacturing boom to America.

In order to do that, the tariffs would have to be paired with massive government investments and subsidies to foster domestic growth. It’s not enough to simply discourage consumption of foreign goods, you have to also stimulate production of them at home.

Of course, Trump and his cronies would never suggest such a thing because they fundamentally oppose spending money on the American people. The only thing they believe in spending money on are tax cuts for the super rich.

None of this is hypothetical either. Mattel, the company that makes Barbie and countless other popular toys, has already announced that they’ll have to raise prices due to the tariffs.

The company sell roughly half of its toys in the United States but relies on Chinese imports for about 20% of those products. They stated that they will have to reduce imports from China to below 15% by 2026 thanks to Trump’s destructive tariffs.

The truth is that there is no plan here from the administration. Trump fundamentally misunderstands how tariffs work and he’s far too stubborn to admit it now. Rather than steer us away from the cliff, he’s putting the pedal to the metal.
