Mom spots ‘God’s hand’ cradling baby’s head in ultrasound

Many people know the story shared by a Kentucky mother where her ultrasound photograph is attracting some attention because of what she sees as a divine intervention, a large hand-like image that seems to be holding the head of her unborn baby. The mother of three, Amanda Foster, a 33-year-old woman, living in Kentucky, calls it a miracle.

 

 

 

It was heartbreak that started the emotional journey of Foster years ago. Her first child, a baby boy called Xavier, died at the age of 17 due to Potter syndrome, which is a rare and usually deadly disease that considerably impacts the functioning of the kidneys and internal organs of the baby. The death was so traumatic and she ended up full of anger and resentment towards God.

 

 

 

 

 

 

She wrote in a saddening Facebook post that it crossed her mind at the time that, you know if God is going to take my son, he would take me as well. It emotionally traumatized her and she was afraid that she would never be able to have a healthy baby boy because the syndrome was living more prevalent in males.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

With the passage of time, Foster and her husband Kyle were gifted with two healthy daughters after which in August 2022, they have been blessed with their first healthy son named Jay. One of the posts that month was when she wrote that the ultrasound was clean in April Jay was Potter syndrome-free, both kidneys were normal, blood circulation was intact. That was the start of the healing process, in the case of Amanda.

 

 

 

Amanda wrote how her youngest daughter, named Bailey, noticed it and inquired who was the person whose hand it was. The photograph depicted what seemed to be the huge hand caressing the small head of Kyler. After Amanda posted the picture, it got circulated fast becoming viral as several people gave it meaning by perceiving it to be a divine sign something that looks like a symbol of protection and grace.

On one of his pictures she said, in one it looks like a hand holding his head. “I cried. No single tear; no tears of any amount. All-out tears of everything [God] has and has done to me. And I could never imagine a thought of living life without [God] in my life!”

Some cynics may explain it as an optical illusion or strange figure on the screen but to Amanda this was an indication of a larger force- God responding to her requests, giving her comfort through a celestial body.

On the 20 th of June, Foster posted a very good news: she was pregnant; at 36 weeks, her chunky boy called Kyler already weighed more than 7 pounds. They watched him breathing to-day. He had a heart rate of 132. She could not wait to hold him in her arms, wrote his sweet little face.

To Amanda, the ultrasound was more than a photo, it was a token of faith, endurance and the ability to believe even when things were grim. Her years were filled with losses and confusion, and she says she considers the image as a reflection of the fact that healing is an option, and that she has never been alone in this process.

She does not answer the question herself and leaves it open to others: What do you see in the image? In the case of Amanda Foster the answer is obvious. It is the hand of God.
