{"id":11011,"date":"2024-05-03T22:21:35","date_gmt":"2024-05-03T22:21:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/diigital.press\/?p=11011"},"modified":"2024-05-03T22:21:35","modified_gmt":"2024-05-03T22:21:35","slug":"judge-cannon-is-on-an-unsealing-binge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/otrxio.com\/?p=11011","title":{"rendered":"Judge Cannon is on an unsealing binge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The judge overseeing\u00a0 President Donald Trump\u2019s classified documents case has ordered another round of unsealing of evidence in the case, with the latest batch exposing that one of the Justice Department\u2019s top lawyers went so far as to threaten the attorney of a Trump defendant.<\/p>\n<p>Investigative reporter Julie Kelly revealed the previously redacted story of attorney Stanley Woodward\u2019s meeting with DOJ prosecutor Jay Bratt where they met to discuss the trial of his client and former Trump aide Walt Nauta. According to one of the documents, which corroborates\u00a0statements\u00a0by Nauta\u2019s defense team last year, Woodward was cautioned by Bratt against representing his client, and if he proceeded then his application for a judgeship may be tanked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUpon Mr. Woodward\u2019s arrival at Main Justice, he was led to a conference room where Mr. Bratt awaited with what appeared to be a folder containing information about Mr. Woodward,\u201d the document reads. \u201cMr. Bratt thereupon told Mr. Woodward he didn\u2019t consider him to be a \u2018Trump lawyer,\u2019 and he further said that he was aware that Mr. Woodward had been recommended to President Biden for an appointment to the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Bratt followed up with words to the effect of \u2018I wouldn\u2019t want to do anything to mess that up,\u201d it goes on.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, the document concludes, DOJ was leaning on Nauta\u2019s attorney to \u201c\u2018play ball or you have no chance of becoming a judge.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Judge Cannon is on an unsealing binge.<\/p>\n<p>Unsealed records detail allegations that Jay Bratt, Jack Smith&#39;s lead prosecutor in classified docs case, threatened Stanley Woodward&#8211;atty for Walt Nauta&#8211;with sinking a judicial nomination if he didn&#39;t get his client to flip on Trump: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/X8aTyOB5PK\">pic.twitter.com\/X8aTyOB5PK<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Julie Kelly \ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8 (@julie_kelly2) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/julie_kelly2\/status\/1783124837445091785?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 24, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Nauta, a Navy veteran and former bodyguard to Trump, faces six federal charges including conspiracy to obstruct justice, withholding a document or record, corruptly concealing a document or record, concealing a document in a federal investigation, scheming to conceal, and making false statements to federal agents,\u00a0according\u00a0to the New York Post. He may spend decades in prison and be forced to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in potential fines.<\/p>\n<div id=\"quads-ad3\" class=\"quads-location quads-ad3\">\n<div id=\"M796697ScriptRootC1293469\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"rumble_v4oqogf\">\n<div id=\"vid_v4oqogf\" class=\"rumble_v4oqogf-Rumble-cls\" tabindex=\"-1\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"bigPlayUI ctp\">&#8216;BE CAREFUL&#8217;: CNN Panel Warns Alvin Bragg Of HUGE Mistake<\/p>\n<div class=\"bigPlayUIInner ctp\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>At the time, President Trump spoke out in defense of his aide, posting on Truth Social that his prosecution is another instance of the Biden Justice Department targeting the president\u2019s top political rival.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have just learned that the \u2018Thugs\u2019 from the Department of Injustice will be Indicting a wonderful man, Walt Nauta, a member of the U.S. Navy, who served proudly with me in the White House, retired as Senior Chief, and then transitioned into private life as a personal aide,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has done a fantastic job! They are trying to destroy his life, like the lives of so many others, hoping that he will say bad things about \u2018Trump.\u2019 He is strong, brave, and a Great Patriot. The FBI and DOJ are CORRUPT!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>James Trusty, a former Trump lawyer, told CNN in June of 2023 that his colleague Woodward is an upstanding officer of the court who didn\u2019t deserve the strong-arming by Bratt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe apparently, along with five other people in his presence from DOJ, extorted a very well-respected, very intelligent lawyer from Washington, DC, saying essentially, \u2018If you want this judgeship that\u2019s on Joe Biden\u2019s desk, you have to flip your guy to cooperate against the President of the United States,\u2019\u201d Trusty said.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, Florida U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon ordered special counsel Jack Smith to\u00a0unseal portions of evidence\u00a0containing testimony from members of the National Archives confirming that it is \u201ccommon\u201d for the pursuit of sensitive documents to go on long after a president has left the White House.
