A year later, I found a box on my porch. Inside, there were photos of the little girl playing with the kitchen set, her face lit up with the kind of joy you can\u2019t fake.<\/p>\n

But there was something else\u2014a brand-new, handcrafted wooden recipe box with a note tucked inside.<\/p>\n

The note read: \u201cThank you for your kindness. My niece loved that kitchen set so much that she now says she wants to be a chef.<\/p>\n

She and I made this recipe box together as our way of paying it forward.<\/p>\n
