Although not related to Princess Diana, he was the Queen\u2019s private secretary from 1990 to 1999, supporting her through tough times, including the tumultuous year of 1992 when Windsor Castle burned, and royal marriages fell apart.<\/p>\n<p>Born at Sandringham House in 1941, Fellowes attended Eton College and served briefly in the Scots Guards before working as a banker. In 1977, he joined the Royal Household, eventually becoming private secretary to the Queen in 1990.<\/p>\n<p>Fellowes, who was married to Princess Diana\u2019s sister, Lady Jane Fellowes, reflected on Diana after her death, saying, \u201cI was very fond of her\u2026 It was hard for her to be happy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He was honored with the Queen Elizabeth II Version of the Royal Household Long and Faithful Service Medal in 1997 and was made a Baron in 1999, introducing him to the House of Lords.
