As you read, you\u2019ll see that real life can be even more surprising than we imagine.<\/p>\n<p>The Story:<br \/>\nMy mom gave up all her parental rights to my dad and left when I was 8 months old. My dad said she never asked about me, and I\u2019ve never met or spoken to her.<br \/>\nA year ago, I saw her name on the schedule for an appointment\u2014I work at a big law firm. I was shocked when she came in. Without looking at me or saying hello, she gave her name and went to the reception area. I tried to be nice and offered her coffee or tea, but she said no. She looked thin and weak\u2014not like the tall, strong woman I imagined from her old photos.<br \/>\nAfter she left, I looked through her file in the lawyer\u2019s office. She was divorcing her third husband and wanted a good lawyer to get a lot of his money, which was in the millions. I was also surprised to learn she had two young daughters with him.
