But is it fair to expect this kind of support from parents after past conflicts?<\/span><\/p>\n

My daughter, Amy, distanced herself from me when she turned 18. She left me out of\u00a0<\/span>important<\/span> life events like her graduation, engagement, and more. Our relationship is practically non-existent, and we rarely talk.<\/span><\/p>\n

Recently, she reached out to me\u2014<\/span>she\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0now a mother of two boys.<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u00a0<\/span>was taken aback<\/span>\u00a0when she contacted me, and we eventually\u00a0<\/span>had a conversation<\/span>. Soon, Amy started complaining about how hard it was to\u00a0<\/span>raise her children<\/span> without help.<\/span><\/p>\n

She asked if I could babysit her kids on Saturdays and\u00a0<\/span>play the role of<\/span>\u00a0a good grandparent. I told her that she damaged our relationship long ago, and\u00a0<\/span>I\u2019m<\/span>\u00a0not in a position to care for her children now.<\/span><\/p>\n
