Doctor warns of health risks linked to nicotine-free vaping
Thus, you quit smoking cigarettes and got on a vape, even a nic-free one, believing that it is more healthy. Anyway there should be no nicotine therefore there should be no harm–should there? Oh, not quite, says a disturbing new study which is putting that assumption on its head.

Health practitioners have now cautioned that there are dangers on nicotine-free vaping. Actually, it might continue to severely detract the vascular performance, which is vital to the heart and the circulatory system. Although it may appear that the lack of nicotine is a green light, according to the study, there are other substances in e-cigarettes that are potentially dangerous in terms of health harm.

Dr. Michael Blaha of the Johns Hopkins Medicine had made the same point, stating that: “You expose yourself to all sorts of chemicals that we do not yet understand and these are thus not safe.” His assertion is an indication of the fears mounting among the medical fraternity on the lasting effects of vaping- whether nicotine is involved or not.

In order to evaluate the possible harmfulness of vaping, in particular, vaping without nicotine, one should observe what is actually smoked. E-cigarettes are devices that are used by heating a liquid, a solution of propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin in most cases, to make vapor. They are safe when ingested but heating and then inhaling these ingredients is a whole different story.

Generally, when these compounds are vaporized, they decompose and may give off dangerous byproducts. These ones include volatile organic compounds and fine particulate matter that may cause irritation of lungs and airways, and thus causing a possible chronic coughing, shortness of breath and inflammation.

And then there is the problem of flavors- the one thing that makes vaping so attractive to the teenagers and novice users. Fruity, minty and sweet flavors have been reported to be some of the products containing diacetyl (associated with a disease of the lung known as popcorn lung), benzaldehyde (a respiratory irritant) and trace metals including lead, nickel and tin, which are present due to the heating coils present within the device.

Although this is the case without the nicotine, the prolonged use of such substances can still harm the lungs and blood vessels. And although vaping does away with the tar and most cancerous ingredients contained in burning cigarettes, it also exposes the body to a completely new range of possible toxins.

This leads us to the results of the newest 2024 study that compared the direct outcomes of inhaling tradition cigarettes, nicotine-containing vapes, and nicotine-free vapes. The researchers found out that all of the three greatly reduced blood vessel performance. It is important to note that nicotine-free vapes caused some damages, although they were worse after nicotine vapes-which ranked second, and third respectively.

One of the most important researchers on the study, Dr. Marianna Nabbout, stated that, according to her, this study should be used to explicate the acute repercussions that smoking and vaping may have on a wide range of vascular beds in human beings. She cautioned that considering that the vessels are already responding negatively to a single use, then, it is logical to conclude that chronic use will induce persistent vascular diseases.

The most distressing fact is, perhaps, that vaping is no longer a possibility only to smokers who want to quit. According to Johns Hopkins statistics, more than 2 million middle and high school students in the United States claimed to have used e-cigarettes in 2021, and more than 80 percent of them resorted to flavored ones.

Dr. Blaha highlighted a disturbing trend, whereby people that would never have smoked anything, particularly the youth are becoming smoking addicts. He cautioned that vaping frequently leads to the eventual enjoyment and endorsed the usage of tobacco via the prior addiction to nicotine.
Based on this piece of research, the idea that vaping without nicotine is a harmless lifestyle choice should be re-envisioned. The short-term physiological effects are being reported now and the cumulative effects will probably be experienced in the long term.

This new evidence should be taken as a wake-up call if you are included among those people who have turned to vaping due to a mistaken belief that it is a harmless activity. The vapor might not contain nicotine, but there are no doubts that it is not nicotine-free.
